Manuva\'s in your town... (big dada)

Today Big Dada and Roots Manuva announce a 15-date UK tour which will run for almost the entire length of October. Kicking off at the Sage Centre in Gateshead and finishing up at Plymouth University, Manuva's London show will be at Shepherd's Bush Empire on Saturday October 18th. In keeping with the sound of his new album, "Slime & Reason," the show will built around a soundsystem feel, focussing more on electronics, dub and crashing beats than the live band sound he employed last time out. As he's shown recently at shows like the "iTunes London Live" festival, Rodney Smith has never enjoyed playing live more. The tour will be a whistle stop journey through fistfuls of classic Manuva tracks plus ample material from the new album.Buy tickets hereSat 04-Oct-08 oxford academySun 05-Oct-08 norwich waterfrontTue 07-Oct-08 gateshead the sage 2Wed 08-Oct-08 edinburgh liquid roomThu 09-Oct-08 glasgow archesSat 11-Oct-08 manchester WarehouseSun 12-Oct-08 nottingham rock cityWed 15-Oct-08 preston club53Thu 16-Oct-08 sheffield plug ukFri 17-Oct-08 birmingham accad 2 ukSat 18-Oct-08 london shepherds bush empire ukTue 21-Oct-08 brighton concorde ukWed 22-Oct-08 cambridge junction ukThu 23-Oct-08 bristol anson rooms ukFri 24-Oct-08 exeter lemon grove ukSat 25-Oct-08 plymouth uni

Infinite brilliance (big dada)

July 30th sees one of the best live shows in town make its way to Corsica Studios. Part MC, part living art project, Infinite Livez has been causing waves of hilarity, revulsion and exhilaration since he debuted on Big Dada with "Pononee Girl". In Swiss electronics/improv duo Stade (plus the incredible vocal stylings of Joy Frempong) he has found his ideal live collaborators. Their two albums only hint at the madness that develops at their live shows, as they build whole new tracks from triggered samples, voices and effects. It's a little like watching Kool Keith jamming with 70s-era Miles Davis, only wilder. And, for one night only, Inf and Stade will be joined onstage by a Very Special Guest - a regular at all their shows who has finally been persuaded to grab a microphone alongisde them for a one-off, truly unmissable collaboration. If you're not excited yet, you should know that I really am (but then I know who the guest is...).Support on the night will be provided by new Big Dada signing Speech Debelle. The first female MC to get a deal with the veteran label, Speech uses a troubled background as a springboard for fragile, achingly honest rap-narratives of self-loathing, fear and hope. Only too happy to rock the mic, tonight she will present an acoustic set and showcase tracks from her forthcoming album.Throw in DJ business from the one and only Jamie Big Dada and you have a sparkling Big Dada night to remember....

Roots Manuva mini documentary... (big dada)

Big Dada have commissioned a short feature on Roots Manuva as part of the build-up to the mighty Slime and Reason album. As long time fans will know, Rodney Smith is a highly thoughtful character and any camera time with him is a rare treat. Littered with tracks from the new album, built around an in-depth interview and revealing a little of the how the album cover was made, the film is a great insight into both the record and the man.Watch it here

Roots Manuva Channel 4 Performance (big dada)

The good burghers of Channel 4 are taking some time this coming week to celebrate the joys and wonders of the British independent music scene running from Joy Division to Kate Mehlua's smash hit, "Blue Tory Womble Lust". As part of this bonanza of corporate depravity, Roderick Manuva went down to Cargo last week and recorded three tracks in front of a small but basically alive studio audience. Shorn of the back-up of Ricky Ranking (tooting away somewhere in Amsterdam with nihilists-du-jour, Bug) Mr Manuva called on New Flesh's Juice Aleem to fulfil BV duties. DJ MK, meanwhile, woke up about ten minutes before the show, having flown in on the 5am pill plane from Ibiza and some KISS FM duties. The results were suitably charming and most definitely live and we are reasonably reliably informed that they can be watched on the TV channel with a big 4 in it at 12.15am (ie in the morning) on Monday night. Or Tuesday morning, depending on how anal you wanna be about it. Watch, revel, etc etc.

That's right folks, the all new Roots Manuva website is up and ready for your viewing pleasure. Best of all, there's a section called Sleazon that comes direct from Rodney Manuva himself. Keep checking back for all the latest news and music.
