“Falling in love in LA
Is like being pricked with a manicured horn
Innocent girls who look like they used to star in amateur porn -
One financial disaster, an exotic dancer is born.”
- “Cosmic Cleavage”

Welcome to the world of Busdriver. The La-La-land native takes this opportunity to fill us in on the pain and torment of relationships in the City of Angels. Originally conceived as a soundtrack to a film he never made, Busdriver hooked up with super-producer Daddy Kev (formely main man at Celestial Recordings and general production giant) and D-Styles (Invizbl Skratch Piklz and Beat Junkies), and invited us to take a closer look at the “Cosmic Cleavage”. Coming on like a cross between John Hendricks, Lord Buckley, Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony and a TV continuity announcer, prepare yourself for one of the most original voices in hip hop today.

“There’s no happy ever after
When your daddy’s eternally a bachelor
And your mother’s thyroid gland
Only allows her to like boy bands.
“Nagging Nimbus”

As a performer, Busdriver grew out of the LA Underground scene based around the Goodlife Café that also nurtured the Freestyle Fellowship, the Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Abstract Rude, Awol One and many, many more. A frequent collaborator with many of Los Angeles' hiphop elite, Busdriver has worked with Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Mikah-9, 2Mex, Xololanxinxo, Fat Jack, Daddy Kev, Paris Zax, and Omid.

His 2002 self-released album “Temporary Forever” made it into many underground hip hopper’s records of the year (with the Village Voice describing his rap styles as “a syncopated giggle”) and it was closely followed by his collaboration with producer Daedalus and Radioinactive as The Weather on Mush. Here, Daddy Kev continues the sonic experiments that pushed his “Slanguage” album with Awol One almost into the relams of free jazz, with D-Styles proving once again that he’s amongst the most imaginative turntablists in the world. And, once again, Busdriver comes through with his unique mixture of humour, discrete social commentary and snapping on students who think they own the music because their jeans are too big:

“I don’t love hip hop.
I don’t even like it.
Let me break it down into its smallest form
For everyone in your college dorm.
I don’t love it
I don’t dedicate hours every day
To writing sappy poetry in its name.
Okay, maybe I do.”
