ROOTS MANUVA FEAT. CHALI 2NA - "JOIN THE DOTS"
While the UK was getting Dreamy, in America they were preparing to Join The Dots. The next single from the critically-acclaimed "Run Come Save Me" is a limited edition import of one of the album's standout tracks, "Join The Dots".
This funky, crunching anthem is considerably enlivened by the man sharing mic duties with Roots Manuva. Chali 2na is best known for his work with Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli. Back in 1999 he came across a strange little album with a picture of second hand microwaves on the front and fell in love with the music inside. He knew his manager talked to people at Ninja Tune North America so he asked them to pass on his complements to this Roots Manuva guy. They did, and a friendship was born. When Rodney Smith first toured the US, the two of them met up. When he went on holiday to the West Coast they got together again. Then at last, earlier this year, Chali came to England especially to record this track (in fact, they recorded another as well, which may come to light at some point in the future!). It was a true meeting of the heavyweights - with soundsystem legend Tippa Irie looking on, Roots and Chali crashed through their verses, trading lines like they'd been rhyming together since birth. With extra bounce added by up-and-coming producer Al Mono (another UK beatmaster introduced to the world by Mr Manuva and definitely one to watch for), the package was complete. Destined to devastate dancefloors.
The flip of the single features another classic from the record, the naggingly spooky atmospherics of "Ital" showing another side to the multifaceted Mr Manuva. Oh, and it has one of the best b-lines of the year. Crank up your bottom end, missus.
Both tunes come with instrumentals and acapellas, which should keep the DJs happy! Enjoy!
