It’s the return of Tido Berman, Teki Latex and Cuisinier, collectively known as French hip hop’s future heroes, TTC.
Since "Leguman" came along and ripped the top off the listening public’s collective head, the Parisian response to commercial laziness and general apathy at home and abroad have been busy. They have played France’s prestigious Transmusicales festival, they have toured France with labelmate Ty and recorded with Doseone. They’ve even supplied guest vocals for Mancunian duo Rae & Christian.
And in between they have worked toward completing their debut album, due out on Big Dada next March. But to keep you interested until this event, the boys thought they’d give you a taster by dropping this EP.
"Elementaire" is an EP about hip hop (oh, and smoking weed, but we’ll get to that). The title track takes the ‘four elements’ of hip hop and reimagines them as, well, the four elements. Last track, "Toi" takes it upon itself to berate wack MCs everywhere. And in the middle, Cuisinier (joined by D'Oz from the group Kroniker) takes us through every aspect of life in a "Coffee Shop" – including being a talking space cake. Oh, those pesky talking space cakes…
Throughout, the music is innovative, original, occasionally downright stupid (as in nasty), combining with their three unique flows to make for a very fine listening experience. Constantly improving and developing, TTC are taking steps to revolutionise hip hop on their home turf and beyond. Try to keep up.
